2021 Annual Meeting – Ballot

Members of Yates Mill Associates are invited to vote for our incoming class of directors.

Please review the candidates’ biographies and cast your ballot by:

  • Using the ballot that was mailed to you and returning it to Yates Mill Associates, PO Box 10512, Raleigh NC, 27605

Your vote must be postmarked or submitted online no later than 11:59 p.m. Eastern time, May 5, 2021.

Jill Adams: Jill is currently retired due to the pandemic. She has had many careers, her longest working at Nortel Networks for 22 years as a Production Floor Documentation Technical Writer. She became involved with YMA when working at the A. E. Finley Foundation with her daddy, Bobby Brown, and attending events with him. When she was asked to join the YMA board, she said YES! She has been a member for over 10 years. Jill currently serves on the Executive Committee as the fifth member.

Bob Harkness: Bob is a retired Principal Engineer for Pall Corp, a maker of filtration products in Cortland, N.Y. He oversaw an engineering group for designing and procuring pressure vessels. He moved to North Carolina in 2013, and discovered Yates Mill when looking for things to do. He signed up as a volunteer for Historic Yates Mill County Park after talking with park staff, and then was inspired by John Vandenbergh to get involved in YMA. He has served on the board for the past six years. Currently, Bob serves as the board’s vice president as well as on the Education, Grants, Nominating, and Park Advisory committees.

Alex Ives: Alex is the Dairy Education Coordinator at the N.C. State Dairy Farm located across from Yates Mill. He grew up on his family’s dairy farm in upstate New York. He moved to North Carolina in 2011 and worked in sales until landing back in the dairy industry with N.C. State. Alex has a passion for teaching and preserving history for all generations to learn. He has served on the YMA Board for the last two years, joining in 2019 to fill the term of a board member who moved out of the area.

Amber McClure: Amber currently leads in-person and online learning at Johnston Charter Academy in the role of assistant principal. She also has experience in creative communication roles, cultivating and developing retail programs to increase business revenue and brand awareness. With a family background in agriculture and horticulture, she has an innate passion for natural and historic preservation. As an educator and school leader, she is interested in partnering with Yates Mill to offer experience and support in the areas of youth development, education, event planning, and engagement to continue seeing this historic Raleigh park thrive!

Colin Richardson: Colin Richardson is an award-winning, National Board Certified high school history teacher with Wake County Schools. He received his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill before working in both public and private schools. He currently serves on his school PTSA and is the 2021 Cary “Building Bridges” Teacher of the Year. A fourth-generation Raleigh native, he is excited to help preserve a landmark of North Carolina history and looks forward to serving the Yates Mill Associates!
