Welcome back to Yates Mill!

It’s time to get our noses back to the grindstone: Tour season has begun at Yates Mill!

Our favorite historic site is now open for weekend visitors — and, by advance arrangement, for group tours during the week.

We’ll be delighted to show you the ins and outs of our amazing Oliver Evans automated milling machinery. Mill heritage tours are held each Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. This Saturday, we’re offering a special History Detective tour for kids at 10 a.m.

If you want to make your visit extra-special, come on corn-grinding weekends — the third Saturday and Sunday of each month. We offer multiple tours by costumed interpreters, and we’ll actually be grinding corn on Yates Mill’s massive grindstones. You can buy our delicious cornmeal and souvenirs of your visit.

Did you know that Yates Mill Associates is solely responsible for financing the repairs and maintenance at historic Yates Mill? That’s why we charge a nominal fee for our tours: $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and $3 for kids aged 7-16 (six and under visit for free). The money goes entirely toward the mill’s upkeep.

These tours are your only opportunity to see the inside of Yates Mill — a fascinating experience if you love history, technology or North Carolina culture. If you don’t take a tour but love visiting Historic Yates Mill County Park, consider dropping a couple of dollars in the donation box at the park’s visitor center (or donate safely online at our website) to help Yates Mill Associates keep this wonderful resource available for our community.

We’re very grateful for your support and we’re proud to show you around this historic treasure. Come on out!
