Check out our new roof!

Roof repairs in 2012

Crew members from Home Improvement Services Inc. hard at work removing rotting and broken shingles before they put up a new roof.

The generous members of Yates Mill Associates gave us all a wonderful Christmas present: a new roof for our old mill!

Using funds donated by YMA members and friends, we hired a roofing crew from Home Improvement Services Inc. of Clayton to build a historically accurate but safe and sturdy new roof for Yates Mill. They began work in mid-December, after tours ended for the season, and finished just after Christmas.

The able staff at Historic Yates Mill County Park helped our head miller, William Robbins, keep an eye on the crew. They closed the mill yard while work was in progress and then helped with the inevitable cleanup of nails and bits of leftover material. They also took pictures of the work in process: have a look at a few they posted on Facebook.

All the trails and mill yard are reopened now and, while mill tours won’t begin until March, you can still get a good look at the fine work by taking a stroll through the park.

Thanks so much to all the kind friends whose gifts to Yates Mill Associates make it possible for us to take care of this cherished landmark. We’re constantly at work to keep the mill operating, so your gifts are always welcome. Click the “Donate” button on the left to make a gift via PayPal or mail a check to Yates Mill Associates at P.O.
